Questions About Light Hiking in Latvia?
We've answered what active retirees most want to know about our guided trails and senior-friendly routes
Most of our Gauja routes are gentle riverside walks ranging from 3 to 8 kilometers, with flat terrain and plenty of spots to rest. We design them so you're never more than 15-20 minutes from a bench or scenic viewpoint—no scrambling or steep climbs involved.
Late May through September is ideal—the weather's stable, daylight lasts until 9 PM in summer, and the sandstone cliffs are at their most dramatic. Spring (April-May) is also lovely if you don't mind occasional rain, and it's less crowded.
Good walking shoes with ankle support are all you need. The Līgatne and Cēsis trails are well-maintained woodland paths, not rocky terrain, so you won't need specialized gear. Just wear something comfortable that you've already walked in.
Yes—our guided routes always include access to facilities. Gauja National Park has visitor centers and rest shelters, Sigulda's cliff paths have marked rest points with benches, and the Līgatne nature area has well-signposted facilities near the main trailheads. We never take you somewhere without a safe place to stop.
We keep groups small—usually 4 to 8 people—so everyone gets personal attention and we can move at a comfortable pace. Of course you can bring a friend; just let us know when you book so we can plan accordingly.
Absolutely. When you book, tell us what works best for you—slower pace, shorter distance, or specific routes—and we'll match you with the right trail and guide. Many of our participants manage arthritis or other mobility considerations; the key is choosing a route that suits you personally.
