Our Purpose

Why We Started sportandhorse SIA

We noticed something simple but important: seniors in Latvia weren't exploring the country's incredible natural areas because information about easy routes wasn't available. There's Gauja National Park with stunning cliff views, Sigulda's famous paths, the peaceful Līgatne woodland trails near Cēsis — all fantastic places for light hiking. But finding senior-friendly routes? That was the challenge. We're changing that.

Real Routes, Not Theories: Every trail we recommend has been walked by people over 60. We know which paths have proper surfaces, where the shade is, which spots need more breaks.
Local Knowledge Matters: We're based in Latvia. We understand the terrain, the weather patterns, seasonal changes, and what actually works for comfortable walking in this region.
Built for Seniors: Distance, elevation, surface quality, facilities — we focus on the details that matter for people planning their hiking days without overexertion.

What We Believe

Accessibility Comes First

A great trail isn't measured by how long or hard it is. It's measured by whether you can actually enjoy it. That's why every recommendation we make considers fitness level, physical limitations, and realistic comfort.

Honest Details Matter

We don't downplay challenges or oversell difficulty. If a path has uneven sections, we'll tell you. If there's minimal shade in summer, we mention it. Real information helps you make real decisions.

Nature Should Be Enjoyed

Getting outside and moving through beautiful landscapes — that's the point. We're here to make sure that happens safely and comfortably for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Local Expertise Wins

Generic hiking advice doesn't cut it. We know Latvia's specific terrain, weather, and seasonal patterns. That knowledge shapes everything we recommend.

Our Approach to Senior Hiking

sportandhorse SIA isn't a travel agency or a commercial tour operator. We're information specialists focused on one thing: helping seniors discover Latvia's best walking routes. We've spent time on every trail we feature, noting the practical details that matter when you're 60 or 70 or 80.

The Gauja National Park guides we've created focus on sections where the views are exceptional but the walking is moderate. Sigulda's famous cliff paths? We've mapped out which segments work best for different fitness levels. Līgatne's woodland trails near Cēsis offer something special — peaceful walking through forests with minimal elevation change. And we've covered day hiking planning basics because preparation makes all the difference.

What makes us different is specificity. We're not saying "this trail is easy" — we're saying "this 4-kilometer route takes about 90 minutes on a well-maintained path with three good rest spots and a café halfway through." That's the kind of detail that actually helps you decide whether to go.
